The context

Where things stand

The demand.

The world needs to remove billions of tonnes of CO₂ a year by 2050. Today it barely manages 2 billion, almost all from planting trees.

The supply.

Permanent, engineered removal runs at just ~ 3.5 million tonnes a year. Against what is needed, that is close to nothing.

The regulations.

Carbon already carries a price across nearly a third of global emissions, and the EU now taxes it at the border. The cost of emitting is only going up.

Circular Carbon Economy

Aligned with the Circular Carbon Economy

Saudi Arabia introduced the Circular Carbon Economy framework and championed it at the G20 in 2020. The framework rests on four actions: reduce, reuse, recycle, and remove. MERSAAD works on the remove and recycle pillars, converting carbon into permanent minerals and useful materials. We see this framework as a practical path, and we are building the technology to serve it.
